A father should
perform :
The Namadheya (the rite of naming the
child), as soon as he gets a child on the tenth or twelfth
day after birth or on a lucky lunar day, in a lucky
muhurta, under an auspicious Constellation.
In
the fourth month, the Nishkramana (first leaving of the house)
of the child should be performed
In the Sixth month, the Annaprasana (first feeding
with rice)
After completion of twelve months, on the birth star
and month, Aayeeshomam will be performed at the first birth
day of the child
Tonsure must be performed for the sake of spiritual
merit in the first or third year
In the eighth, eleventh or twelfth year one should
perform initiation of the child. If one desires proficiency,
it can be during the fifth, sixth and eighth year after conception
An initiated one should beg alms according to prescribed
rule beginning his request with The word "Bhavati". He should
first beg for food from his mother, sister, and maternal aunt
or from some other lady who will not disgrace him by refusal.
After
collecting the required food he should inform his teacher and
then eat, turning his face towards east and having purified
himself by sipping water. His meal will procure him a Long life,
if he eats facing East, fame, if he faces South, prosperity,
if he faces West, truthfulness, if he faces the North . He should
always worship his food and eat it without contempt and pray
that he may always be able to obtain it.
Excessive eating is detrimental to health, to fame, and to bliss
in heaven, it prevents the acquisition of spiritual merit, and
is repulsive among men, and for those reasons one should avoid
it carefully.
He
should always pronounce the syllable "OM" at the beginning and
at the end of a lesson in the veda.
He who habitually salutes and constantly pays reverence
to the aged obtains four things in plenty viz. longevity, knowledge,
fame and strength.
Unless one is asked one must not explain anything to anybody.
Where merit and wealth are not obtained by teaching or
at least obedience, in such soil sacred knowledge must not
be sown, just as good seed must not be thrown on barren land
A wise man should strive to restrain his organs, which
run wild among alluring sensual objects like a charioteer controls
his horses. Through the attachment of his organs a man doubtlessly
will incur guilt but if he keeps them under complete control he
will successfully achieve all his goals.
One's teacher, father, mother and elder brother must not
be treated with disrespect, even if they grievously offend one.
He who does not neglect his father, mother and elder brother even
after he has become a householder, will conquer the three worlds
and will enjoy bliss in heaven
