The various qualifying steps
to salvation -
Perception/understanding of the Atman (self),
Qualities of Godliness- To practice Viveka (discrimination between
the real and unreal) and Vairagya (Detachment) To remove the wall
of difference between 'I and thou'- being able to see the Atman
(Self) in all beings. For eg., the Isha Upanishad preaches through
illustrations that it's the mind's attitude which paints our life
with joy or sorrow. 'God pervades every being ' is the gist of
the Upanishad
These stories open the doors to
spiritual enlightenment. They are the milestones in the path of
spirituality.They also instruct man on how he should live his
Varnas (Bhramacharya, grihastya, Vanaprastha, Sanyasa) and of
how he should perform his duties at each stage of life.

we 'absorb and implement' its teachings, and imbibe the best in
our self.
