DEEPAVALI

Deepavali Sweets - In Ayurvedic Perspective

Deepavali comes in the sharat rtu (Autumn season). The pitta, which was accumulated in the previous season – varsha rtu, gets aggravated in this season. So to balance the aggravated pitta sweets made with ghee are given. Pitta is the dosha, which is hot. Pitta gets subsided by madura (sweet), kashaya (astringent) & tikta (bitter tastes).

Ghee sweets are very special in balancing the pitta. Apart from balancing vata & pitta the sweets also gives good nourishment to dhatus, strength, aphrodisiac, improves sukra (semen) & ojas. Even though it has many good qualities when taken in excess it leads to diseases like obesity, diabetes & other kapha diseases.
