The family priest and other priests are to
be honored with paddy, wheat, gingely
seeds, green gram, red gram
along with a coconut, betel leaves and nuts, bananas
and dakshinai
The elders are expected to observe Vratham
and will have only "havis" with coconut milk
and curd (made of buffalo milk)
This day they should avoid cow's milk. The
food they eat has to be unsalted.
To avoid Yama Payam they will do this pooja
Adi Festival
It is celebrated on the first day of the Tamil
Month Adi
It is a special function for newly married
couples, who are presented with gifts and a
feast is organized for them
Coconut milk is a must for this function.
Menu for the day is usually Curd Pachadi, Kosumalli
Kottu, curry, butter milk stew, ana
vadai fried appalam,Chips,
Poli or some sweet

It is celebrated on the eighteenth day of the Tamil
Month of Adi to worship the river Cauvery.
Mixed Rice Varieties to be served along with Curry
vadams and wafers
Entertainment day - having food on the banks
of the Cauvery along with family

Varalakshmi
Vratham
It Falls on Dasami Thithi after Amavasya either
in the month of Adi or Avani
This vratham is observed mainly in some 'smartha'
and 'Telugu' brahmin families
Worship Varalakshmi with kalasam with Mango
leaves and Coconut and then draw a
mandap around it. Both
sides of Mandap will also have drawings of tender plantain
leaves with stems and then will be decorated
with kolams, flowers and jewels along
with incense sticks
Payasam, Cooked rice, Vadai, Kozhukattais, made
of dhal, coconut, blackgram dhal
and gingely seeds and raw
rice idlis.
During the pooja the noanbu charadu (string) applied
with turmeric paste should be tied
in the hand
For those who perform the pooja during the first
year of the marriage it will be treated as Thalai
Noanbu
All pooja items with flowers, fruits will
be presented to the newly wedded girl in order to
obtain prosperity, wealth
and Sowbaghyam
Punar pooja is to be performed by the next
morning
Maha Neivedhyam will be offered to the deity
Sumangalis will be invited and will be offered
coconut, betel leaves, nuts, sundal and
turmeric along with dakshinai
