An Overview on Nakshatras
There are different systems used to understand Nakshatras in astrology. One system follows 27 Nakshatras, while another includes 28 Nakshatras. To understand Nakshatras properly, it is important to first look at the broader concept behind them.
A full lunar cycle lasts about 27 days and 7 hours. Because of this, the 27 Nakshatra system is considered more practical, with the 28th Nakshatra overlapping slightly. When the 360 degrees of the zodiac are divided into 27 equal parts, each Nakshatra covers 13 degrees and 20 minutes.
Each zodiac sign contains 2¼ Nakshatras, meaning two full Nakshatras and one quarter of the next. Every Nakshatra is further divided into four Padas, while each zodiac sign has nine Padas in total.
The influence of planets within Nakshatras is guided by Nakshatra lords, also known as deities. These deities play an important role in shaping a person’s nature and behavior by subtly modifying the effects of planetary energies.
