On Thursday, Oct 28, 2021, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that his company’s name will be changed to Meta Platforms Inc. The name change, which was announced at the Facebook Connect augmented and virtual reality conference, shows the company’s growing ambitions beyond social media.

The change does not affect its platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp, but just the parent company that owns them.
