Ashadha Amavasya is the new moon night that occurs in the Hindu month of Ashadha. The cycle of the moon is a very important factor that contributes to the Hindu calendar. It helps us determine the Shukla Paksha and the Krishna Paksha which allows the month to be divided into two parts. Therefore, at the end of every Shukla Paksha comes the Full Moon i.e. the Purnima, and at the end of every Krishna Paksha comes the New Moon i.e. the Amavasya.

Although every Amavasya serves a different purpose it is believed that the Amavasya that falls on a Monday is highly auspicious as it is very dear to Lord Shiva. However, every Amavasya is highly significant for pleasing one’s ancestors and performing “Tarpan” for them. It is believed that on this day our ancestors come to the Earth and that we can acquire their blessings by performing the rituals of the Amavasya.
