Importance of fasting on Durva Ashtami
Durva is used in various Hindu rituals and rituals. While worshiping Maa Adyashakti Bhagwati and Gajanan Ganapati, Durva i.e. Doob is compulsorily offered. This is very dear to Ganesha, without Durva his worship is considered incomplete. According to mythological beliefs, during the churning of the ocean, a few drops of nectar fell on Durva from the urn filled with nectar. For this reason also Durva is considered sacred. Therefore, whoever observes a fast on this day and worships Durva, all his wishes are fulfilled and divine blessings remain upon him.
According to another legend, once Lord Ganesha was fighting a battle with demons. The demons could not be killed in the war, then Ganesha swallowed them to end them. As soon as he did this, severe heat was generated in Ganesha’s body, the heat of his stomach and body became unbearable. Then the deities offered him green beans. Durva reduced the heat of his body and gave him coolness. This is the reason that Durva is very dear to Ganesha and without offering it, the worship of Ganapati remains incomplete.
Fasting and worship method of Durva Ashtami
This festival is celebrated on the Ashtami of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. On this day early in the morning, after retiring from bath etc., wear clean washed clothes and resolve to fast. Offer fruits, flowers, garlands, rice, incense, lamp etc. to all the deities installed in the place of worship of the house and worship them in Panchopachar. At the end, after worshiping Lord Shiva, offer durva to Ganesha and offer bread made of sesame seeds and sweet flour to him. After worship, donate as much as you can and feed the needy.
Must worship Ganesha
On the occasion of Durva Ashtami, Ganesh ji should be duly worshiped and dub should be offered to him. After this, chant Ganesh Gayatri Mantra at least 108 times and pray to him to remove your troubles. In this way, by performing the rituals of Ganesha, all the problems coming in your life will be destroyed immediately. Ganesh Gayatri Mantra is as follows
