If you want a house of your dreams, it is essential to consider the Vastu for that place. Vastu may not be crucial, but it can lead your life to a better living. Vastu generates energy in your environment, which is good for a healthy mind and body. The process of Vastu starts from plot selection to lay the foundation of a home that would invite positive energy to the residents of that house. There are cases when people find issues with the plot after making the final purchase, and it can be in the form of mental, physical or social well being.
Shape of the plot
While purchasing a plot, it’s essential as per Vastu shastra to look for the shape of the land. Plots with irregular shapes such as triangles and others must be avoided. Preference should be given to properties with a rectangular and square shape ( in the ratio 1:2 & all sides at 90 degrees). These are considered favourable from the Vastu’s point of view and are said to bring prosperity and happiness. The magnetic waves are created and surrounded evenly in square and rectangular plots. If there is any defect in the sizes or shapes of plots, these magnetic forces get distributed unevenly and affect the Vastu energies of that plot.

- One of the most favourable shapes of a plot is a Gaumukhi or cow-faced. Such plots are narrower within the front and wider within the rear. These are believed to be very lucky for constructing a home if there are roads on the south and the west side of the plot.
- A Shermukhi or a lion-faced plot is broader at the front portion and narrower at the rear. These are suitable only for commercial purposes for shops etc. It becomes more favourable if roads are passing on the eastern and the northern side of the plot.
- Always select square- or rectangular-shaped plots for the construction of homes. These are known to balance the forces of elements and energies and invite overall prosperity for the occupants.
It is essential to understand the roads connecting to your plot.
It is considered very good When the incoming road is from the east and hits the northeast part of the plot.
When the incoming road is from the north and hits the northeast part of the plot, it is neither bad nor good.
When the incoming road is from the West and
hits the North- West part of the plot.
When the incoming road is from the South and hits the South-East part of the plot, the site is not favourable.
Important Things to be kept in mind while purchasing a plot of land
- One should make sure that no temple is present near the plot. There should be a fair distance between them because the temple carries the negative energies of the followers.
- Check for the presence of power poles. Power poles within the northeast corner may be a serious Vastu Dosha as this direction is that the place for water and having an influence pole at such an area can be very dangerous. Also, there are no issues just in case the facility pole is placed within the southern direction.
- Ensure that your plot isn’t located near a graveyard or hospital.
- Check that there are not any industrial buildings nearing your plot.
- The plot shouldn’t be squashed between two large buildings.
- River to the south of the plot and mountains to the north of the plot aren’t considered auspicious.
- Corner plots and plots covered with green vegetation are considered to be auspicious.
- Plots encapsulated by running roads from all directions begin to be good for commercial purposes.
Vastu Tips To Remove Defects In Plot
- Divide an irregular-shaped plot into two regular plots with separate compound walls for each portion.
- You can create a store or garage on the southwest side of the extended portion; a little temple on the northeast side; and gardens within the north, the east or the northeast sides.
- Use Vastu pyramids for shaping extended plots. For example, a lead pyramid for the southwest extension, brass pyramid strips for the northwest extension and copper strips for the southeast extension.
- Discard the plot if the soil emanates the smell of decaying matter or is laden with rocks, worms, thorns, bones or other inauspicious substances. For soil testing, you could also hire the services of a Vastu expert.
- A plot is considered auspicious if things like cow horns, conch, turtles, copper, gravel, bricks, etc., are obtained while digging. If the land has these things – cowries, tiles, tattered clothes, coal, iron, lead, gold, gemstones and petroleum, it’s better to avoid such plots.
- To construct a building for any purpose, the land is required. And it’s a fact the land has not been previously not allocated for an equivalent. It has got to be some or the opposite quiet site that has to be used. It should be correctly noted for what purpose the land was getting used previously. While purchasing land, it is ideal to buy land that is most suitable for cultivation, i.e., where the vegetation can grow.
Types of soil to be considered
There are different types of soil supporting the colour- reddish-brown, dark brown, white, red, yellow, black etc. Generally, the soil that is sweet for cultivation, like red, brick red, brown, yellow soil, etc., is also suitable for building a building. Whereas black and clayey soil, which isn’t ideal for cultivation, is additionally not suitable for installations because it retains water and may cause dampness to the inspiration. It is advised to avoid a site with black and clayey soil.
The reason being, the black soil indicates soil that retains water and doesn’t allow good drainage. It’s best to avoid such a site because it’ll require a unique foundation and waterproofing, often costing the standard foundation. Again avoid rocky pieces of land for construction purposes. Land with too many rocks and thorny trees isn’t considered reasonable. This is often because it’s going to be a sign that there’s a rock below which can need to be blasted out before laying the inspiration, causing unexpected expenditure. A land with a lot of worms should be avoided. This might be a sign that the soil is exceptionally loose and can not support the building.
There are few Soil Test which can help you choose a favourable plot
- Dig a 1.5 feet deep pit in the centre of the plot
In the middle of the plot, dig a 1.5 feet deep pit and fill this with water. If a few minutes later, the water level in the pit remains the same or reduces by 10 per cent %, then the plot is compelling. If the level goes down by 50 per cent, then the plot is considered average. In case the level goes down by 60 per cent, then the plot is inauspicious.
- In the centre of the plot, dig a hole having a diameter of 1 mt. Now, refill this with the soil already dug out. If, after filling the hole, there is some soil left, then proceed with the purchase.
- Take the soil from the plot and keep it in your fist. If, after a few minutes, the soil quickly slides out of hand, then avoid purchasing such a plot. On the other hand, if the soil sticks to your palm, then proceed by finalising the deal.
