Attain Complete Bliss with Ashwini Nakshatra Shanti Puja

For a common man, it isn’t easy to understand the depth of Vedic astrology. But for expert astrologers, Kundli and Rashi play a major role in understanding the traits and other hidden characteristics about a person. Primarily, everyone has some superficial knowledge about horoscopes and the twelve zodiacs. But, looking beyond, the real knowledge and significance are more than just Kundli and Rashi. There comes one more element that completes Vedic astrology’s way to predict the traits and overall life journey of a person. And this element is known as Nakshatra.

Like planets have a negative and positive influence over the native, similarly, the Nakshatras also have a role to play in the life of the native. And just like pujas and havans are performed to pacify or strengthen the planets, the Nakshatras also have some rituals and rites. One such way to pacify the Nakshatras is the Ashwini Nakshatra Shanti Puja.

Here, we are going to reflect on the Ashwini Nakshatra Shanti Puja. But before going into those details, we shall understand what are Nakshatras and the different types of Nakshatras. We will also try and get some specific knowledge on the Ashwini Nakshatra in Vedic Astrology, its significance and its appearance.

Nakshatras – Defining Them!

We all know that when a natal chart or kundli is created, it represents the blueprint of the sky, where the positions of various planets and stars are displayed. In simple words, when a person is born, the sky has a particular pattern that is specific at that particular moment. The astrologers track that pattern and draw it on the horoscope of the person, after getting the accurate birth details. This horoscope has twelve houses and zodiacs and 27 nakshatras.

So, what is a nakshatra? In literal words, Nakshatra can be divided into two words – Naksha and Tara. The Naksha means a map and Tara means a star. Which means Nakshatra signifies a map of a star. Nakshatras have an association with the movement of the Moon. There are 27 Nakshatras in Vedic astrology and the Moon travels through each nakshatra in 27 days. However, the Nakshatra where the Moon is present at the time of the birth is considered the Janma Nakshatra of the person.

Moreover, there is also a mythological significance attached to the Nakshatras and the movement of the Moon through each Nakshatra. It is believed that there was a king named Daksha, who had 27 daughters who together were called Nakshatras. The Moon was in love with one of the daughters, known as Rohini. King Daksha agreed to their love but with a condition that Moon should marry all the daughters.

The Moon accepted his condition and got married to the Nakshatras. But he spent most of the time with Rohini and the rest of the Nakshatras felt left out. So, they complained to Daksha, who took a promise from Moon to spend equal time with all his daughters. On the contrary, Moon failed to keep his promise and this annoyed Daksha so much that he cursed Moon that he will lose his lustre and would go waning.

All the deities asked Daksha to forgive Moon but as he could not take back the curse, he just changed it and since then Moon goes into waxing and waning. This cycle completes with Purnima and Amavasya, alternate in fifteen days each month. And the Moon stays in each Nakshatra for one complete day.

These 27 Nakshatras are divided into three groups with nine nakshatras in each group. These groups are named Dev Gana, Manushya Gana and Rakshas Gana. The Ashwini Nakshatra is the first of all and falls in Dev Gana which signifies divine and refined traits. Now let’s know more about Ashwini Nakshatra.
